Dog breeding and conception do not always occur at the same time. This is because the sperm remains viable up to five days following sexual intercourse (coitus). The typical period of gestation is anywhere between 57 to 65 days following conception, and not a breeding.

When they are first pregnant, female dogs may not show any external signs of being pregnant until late in the term. And amazingly enough, you may not even notice that the dog is pregnant until days before she is due. All of a sudden her abdominal muscles will seem to distend and sag, which causes that overweight and bloated look. The dog’s vulva will also be significantly enlarged during her last week and within two days before whelping, it will become noticeably softer.

As the proud owner of a dog, giving him enough exercise should be a number one priority. Your job is to keep your dog as healthy as possible with proper exercise. However, this can be challenging if you live in an area where the winters are icy and the temperatures are low.

Below are a few exercise and safety tips that will help keep your dog in shape as well as remain safe while being outdoors in the cold.

1. If you live in an area where the weather gets extremely cold, be sure that your dog’s body (especially the limbs) is properly warmed up. Some people make the mistake of going immediately out into the cold weather from a warm house. This can cause injuries to both your dog and yourself. In order to prevent injuries and soreness, muscles must first be stretched a bit and warmed up.
